Iran said on Saturday that it might bar travellers from India over a COVID-19 variant to avert its spread within the already stricken country. Officials, however, didn't say if any cases of the variant first identified in India in late March had been detected in Iran, the epicentre of the pandemic within the Middle East . "The Indian coronavirus may be a new threat we face," President Hassan Rouhani said in remarks broadcast on state TV. "The Indian virus is more dangerous than English and Brazilian variants," he added. "All the eastern provinces should confirm people infected with the virus don't cross the borders into the country," Rouhani said. Iran's eastern provinces border with Pakistan and Afghanistan. Actor Nawab Shah has tested positive for COVID-19. The actor, in an Instagram post on Friday, revealed that he has "mild symptoms" which he has isolated himself since he got his coronavirus test result. "This morning I tested positive for COVID, I even have mild symptoms and that i have isolated myself since I acknowledged about my possible exposure to the virus. A C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force took off from the Hindon airbase in the outskirts of Delhi for Singapore's Changi airport early on Saturday morning, the official told news agency Press Trust of India. Amid the grim COVID-19 situation in the country, four cryogenic tanks, to be used for the transportation of oxygen, are being airlifted from Singapore today. A Home Ministry official said the four empty tanks are being brought to India by a heavy lift transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force. Two dozen cryogenic oxygen transport tanks will be airlifted to India to increase transport capacity from production sites to hospitals battling critical shortages amid a frightening wave of coronavirus infections, consumer goods giant ITC Limited tweeted Saturday afternoon. The ISO-certified tanks will be flown in from neighbouring Asian countries in collaboration with Linde - a privately-held German company that is also a major supplier of medical oxygen.
